A Mac email app built for privacy
A fast, lightweight email client for Mac, made for long, focused sessions and protected by the same encryption as every Atomic Mail app.
Encryption that starts on your Mac
Emails and attachments you send to other Atomic Mail users are locked with AES-256, RSA-2048 and ECIES before they leave your Mac. Only the recipient can open them.
A mailbox we can't open
Your stored mail is encrypted with keys we never hold, so no one at Atomic Mail can read your inbox.
10 free aliases
Sign up for newsletters, tools and online stores with separate aliases and keep your main address out of their databases.
Protected mail to any provider
Password-protect a message or set it to self-destruct, even when the recipient uses Gmail, Outlook or iCloud.
Privacy Center built in
See your privacy analytics and reach every privacy feature from one place in the sidebar.
Sign up without a phone number
Your account needs no phone number and no backup email, so it isn't linked to your real-world identity.
How to install Atomic Mail on your Mac
The Mac app is ready in a few minutes. There's nothing to configure in Apple Mail, and nobody asks for your phone number.
Download the Mac app
Click Download for Mac on this page to get the installer (a .dmg file) from atomicmail.io. The app is free.
Install and open Atomic Mail
Open the downloaded file, follow the installer's steps, then launch Atomic Mail from your Applications folder.
Create your address or sign in
Create a new account without a phone number, or sign in with the account you already use on iPhone, Android, Windows or the web.
Save your seed phrase
When you create an account, you get a seed phrase. Write it down and store it offline: Atomic Mail doesn't hold your keys, so it's your way back in if you forget your password.
Prefer not to install anything?
Open atomicmail.io in Safari or any other browser and sign in. The web app uses the same account and the same encryption.
Atomic Mail and Apple Mail: what's the difference?
Apple Mail is an email client: an app that shows mail from whichever provider you add to it. Atomic Mail is the email provider itself, with its own Mac app, so it controls how your mail is encrypted and stored.
What that means on your Mac:
Different jobs. Apple Mail displays your mail. Atomic Mail is where your address and mailbox live.
Encrypted end to end. Messages between Atomic Mail users are encrypted before they leave your Mac, not just in transit.
Unreadable to us. The mailbox stored on Atomic Mail's servers is encrypted with keys only you hold.
Not in Apple Mail yet. There's no IMAP access today, so you read Atomic Mail in its own app or your browser. IMAP is on the roadmap.
Use both side by side. Keep Apple Mail for your other accounts and use Atomic Mail for private email.
Atomic Mail vs iCloud Mail on Mac
Many Mac users read iCloud Mail in Apple Mail. Here's how that setup compares with Atomic Mail.
